Halve a brie wheel, stuff it with cranberries and walnuts, and you’ve got a crowd-pleasing appetizer!
We often found holidays around the corner, and everyone is getting ready for the holiday meals, even though only a few guests will be coming over this year. There won’t be any big gatherings or parties because of the pandemic and the safety measures in place.
Still, people are excited to cook delicious dishes, maybe as a way to escape from the tough times we’ve all been facing. So, while you’re trying out various recipes to find the perfect appetizer for your holiday table, we’ve discovered a fantastic one.
It’s easy to make and incredibly delicious. This baked stuffed brie will not only satisfy your hunger but also bring warmth to your heart this holiday season.
Let’s take a look at the ingredients and steps to prepare this delightful appetizer:
Ingredients:
- 1 small wheel of brie (about 6 to 8 inches is ideal)
- A handful of chopped dried cranberries
- A handful of chopped walnuts
- Enough puff pastry to cover the cheese (1/8-inch thick), plus extra for decoration
- 1 egg, beaten with very small amount of water
Instructions:
- Prepare the Brie: Use kitchen string or dental floss to cut the wheel of brie in half.
- Stuff the Cheese: Spread the cranberries on one side of the cheese and press them in. Do the same with the walnuts on the other side. Put the two halves back together and press down gently.
- Wrap the Cheese: Thaw the puff pastry, then place one sheet on your work surface. Make sure there’s not too much extra pastry around the edges. Brush some egg wash on the pastry around the cheese, then wrap the cheese. Flip it over to make it look neater and place it on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- Decorate (Optional): If you like, you can use the leftover puff pastry to add a decorative touch on top, like vines and grapes.
- Freeze: Put the wrapped cheese in the freezer for one hour.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Place the cheese in the center of the oven and bake for 20 minutes. To check if it’s done, look for some cheese leakage around the edges. If there’s no leakage, it might still be done, but this is rare.
- Serve Hot: Take the cheese out of the oven once it’s ready. You don’t need to let it cool down. Enjoy it hot and melty, spread on slices of warm, toasted bread—perfect for a chilly winter night.
Enjoy your delicious appetizer!
